LA Sunset Relay – 10 Mile Team Relay
The LA Sunset Relay follows a fun and social format—similar to our Griffith Park Trail Marathon Relay—but with 4-person teams racing against the glow of the evening skyline.
How It Works
Each team consists of four runners, and every runner completes the same approximately 2.5-mile counterclockwise loop, starting and finishing near Park Center.
If your team has fewer than four runners, that’s okay—a team member can run multiple legs.
Each leg begins and ends in the Relay Festival Area, where teammates, friends, and spectators can cheer you on while enjoying food, live music, games, and team tents.
Course
Registration & Team Setup
- Team Captain: Registers first, selects a division, and pays for the full team entry.
- Teammates: Register by selecting “Join a Team” and choosing the team name from the dropdown list.
- Password: When creating a team, Captains set a password so only invited members can join.
- Responsibility: Captains are responsible for filling their team (themselves + three teammates).
If you can no longer participate, you may transfer your entry to another runner by 11:59 PM on Thursday, September 10.
You’ll need the new team member’s email to complete the transfer, and they must accept by the deadline. Any payment arrangements are between the parties involved.
(And yes—please make sure to reimburse your captain for your share of the team entry.)
Solo Runners & Free Agents
Want to participate but don’t have a team? Choose the “Sunset 5K” or “Free Agent” option during registration and we’ll help connect you with others looking for teammates.
Divisions
- Men (for teams of 4 males)
- Women (for teams of 4 females)
- Co-Ed (for teams of any combination of males and females)
- Just for Fun (any combination of runners/walker, or free agents)
Age, Strollers, and Pets
- Minimum age: 13 years old
- Due to the busy exchange zone, strollers are not permitted
- No pets are allowed on the course
Awards, Badges, & Results
The LA Sunset Relay is a timed event with awards for the top teams in multiple divisions.
Team results (available on our Results & Awards page) will include splits for each leg, though splits aren’t tied to individual names and there are no individual awards.
We’ll also recognize teams for:
- Funniest Team Name
- Largest Running Club
- Largest Corporate Team
- Largest Gym Team
This event is all about fun, teamwork, and celebration of the vibrant Los Angeles Running Community.
Race Duration
The race begins at 4:30 PM, and the course will close at 8:00 PM a generous 3.5 hour time limit.
