RELAY QUESTIONS

What is the Los Angeles Sunset Trail Relay?

The Los Angeles Sunset Trail Relay is an exciting trail running event that combines teamwork and adventure. Participants will enjoy stunning views of the city as they navigate through Griffith Park’s scenic trails during sunset.

What is the Relay Format?

The Sunset Relay follows the same team-based format as our popular Griffith Park Trail Marathon Relay but with a shorter distance and 4-person teams—perfect for late-summer miles with friends!

How It Works
1) Each team consists of 4 runners.
2) Each runner completes one identical ~2.5-mile loop through the scenic trails of Griffith Park.
3) All loops are run counterclockwise, starting, finishing, and handing off at the Exchange Area.

Exchange Area & Festival
The heart of the event! Set up your team tent and enjoy the festive atmosphere with music, food, and cheering squads.
All transitions happen here—so every runner gets their moment to shine in front of the crowd.

What is the course?

The 10M Relay course features a gently rolling 2.5-mile counterclockwise loop in Griffith Park. All runners start, finish, and hand off at the same central location. Each runner completes the same scenic, beginner-friendly loop, and together the team covers approximately 10 miles with less than 300 ft of elevation gain.

What is the course surface composition?

The 2.5M relay course is approximately 2 miles of trails, and 0.5 miles of asphalt. We recommend you wear trail running shoes to better handle the trail sections of the course.

What should I bring on race day?

On race day, participants should bring comfortable running shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, hydration packs or water bottles, and any personal items they need. Teams are also welcome to bring one 10×10 pop-up tent, folding tables, comfortable chairs, and food and refreshments. Many teams enhance the fun by bringing music, games, and extra snacks. And above all—don’t forget your enthusiasm and team spirit!
